Lead Removal from Soils via Bench-Scale Soil .

The efficiencies of six washing solutions in removing lead from the contaminated soils were then investigated via batch washing experiments. Unlike conventional field-scale soil washing, all particle size fractions were washed and recovered in these bench-scale experiments. HCl and EDTA obtained the best Pb-removal efficiencies.

Soil Washing | Geoengineer

Soil washing is an ex-situ remediation technique that removes hazardous contaminants from soil by washing the soil with a liquid (often with a chemical additive), scrubbing the soil, and then separating the clean soils from contaminated soil and washwater (US EPA 1993, 1996). The concept of soil washing is based on the theory that contaminants are prone to bind to fine grained soils .

Evaluation of Soil Washing Technology: Results .

The bench- scale soil washing apparatus recovered only 55% of the SSM mass after washing, and 45% was washed off into the washwater and rinsewater. Since the site soils contained lower amounts of fines (7% to 43% by weight for the four sites tested), greater amounts of soil were re- covered from the washing process, which resulted in lower suspended solids in the washwaters.

Full-scale and pilot-scale soil washing. - Abstract ...

The purpose of this paper is to describe soil washing and to present results obtained from pilot-scale and full-scale projects. The soil washing system to be described is a water-based physical separation process which relies on traditional physical and chemical extraction and separation processes for removing a broad range of organic, inorganic, and radioactive contaminants from soil.
